Photographs of Glasgow - anyone want any taken?
« on: Sunday 18 January 09 01:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Just a thought.....
I'm always looking for a reason to go for a walk and make use of my camera.
I live in the south side of Glasgow and would be happy to take photos of addresses or areas your ancestors lived in (not just in the south side).

I've offered before to take photos of grave stones but I've never had much success in finding particular stones, it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.  ::)

Obviously, a lot of Glasgow has been redeveloped.  However, there are still some older buildings /  undeveloped areas in existence, mostly Victorian, some Georgian.

If you'd like me to take photos, please ask.  I'll see what I can do.

Dave

Hi Dave
We'll take you up on it but I have to find the addresses we need.  Most are in a very close area in Govan and one is in Queen Street.
We took some in Govan when we were there in 2002 but didn't have all the addresses.
Would this be the sort of thing you are willing to do?

That's exactly what I'm offering.
Happy to do it - just send me the addresses.
Queen St is easy.  I might even have some already!

Hi Dave,

What would the chances be of a 1858 grave in Eastern Necropolis cemetery still being there, or would it have vanished?

Just curious :)

KHP,
I've been to The Eastern Nec a couple of times.  Some of it is OK but other bits are in total disrepair.
As I said KHP, I've not had much success in looking for specific stones but I'd be happy to take some general photos.  If we're lucky, I might come across your folk.

Dave,

If you don't strike it lucky, then not to worry.

My ggrandparents headstone, are similar to those, split in half, lying on the ground, with just the wording barely eligible. :(
