Story with the John of Hogshill - he was Jesse Dancy's uncle;

1787: (re this John or his father?) Historical Newspapers > Daily Universal Register (London, Middlesex, England) 1787 December  5
Country News [Section]
Lewes, Dec 3.
... One evening a few days since, as Mr John Dancey, a farmer, near Crawley, in this county, was on his return home from Ryegate market, he was stopped by a single "footpad" (sootpad?), who demanded his money, and robbed him of about ten pounds in cash, which Mr Dancey delivered to him without the least resistance or hesitation.  he had some Bank notes about him, the the villain fortunately did not demand his pocket book which contained them.
the letter-cafe, containing the Bank notes stolen out of the hose of Mr Tickbon[?], at Hertimonceux, as mentioned in a former paper, we are informed, was on Monday last found in a field not far from the house, with all the bills in it. except the on of "40!." which have been since returned to the owner.  It is thought the cafe had not lain many hours before it was taken up, as it was perfectly clean and dry.

If the farm is in Cuckfield then it will be Sidnye - just north of the village out on the road to Balcombe.
There is no marriage for a Jesse Dancy on the Sussex Marriage Index.  Did they marry here or in the USA?
Horsham is really not near enough to Cuckfield or Lindfield for them to worship regularly at a church there.  It is around 30 minutes in a car now.  Why do you think the Sidney is at Cuckfield or Lindfield?
This is puzzling!
Andrea

Sorry Andrea,

Jesse Dancy married Susan Ancombe? about 1837 in Monroe New York although I have not been able to find the marriage yet because accessing records in the USA is not as straight forward as most would like although I did find their childrens' marriages.

I'm a little puzzled as to where Sidnye farm is - I connect it with it being near Cuckfield - I dont know if I'm correct in my knowledge!

I found records showing Daniel and Hannah, Jesse's siblings were buried in Horsham Bapists grounds.

I am not good at putting links for maps but if you get onto a modern map and follow the B2036 road out of Cuckfield to the north Sidnye farm is on the left about a mile out towards Balcombe.   Pilstye farm is next to it.
Cuckfield has a Baptist church and they hold their own records so it may be worth contacting them to see if the family worshipped there.   http://www.cuckfieldbaptistchurch.co.uk/
Cuckfield Parish covered an extremely wide area so any reference to it could simply mean that someone came from a village within it rather than from Cuckfield village itself.

My family, the Michell's who owned the Manor of Cuckfield (a descendant of the original owner of the Manor, Gilbert III de Aquila of the Honor and Barony of Pevensey) from the 13th cent, which includes a farm mention by yourselves, "Sidnye Farm". If l can give assistance in your search please contact my Email address - (*)
Sidye Farm was built & owned by the Michell's from the 13th cent. - 17th cent. They owned most of the Manor at that time, the Burrell's were off a later date.
