Hi
I searched from 1813 to 1828.
There are two Anscombe families having children baptised in Cuckfield at that time at holy trinity Church.
Joseph, who is a Carpenter, with wife Elizabeth and John, a labourer with wife Sarah.
You can see all their daughters by looking at batch number C024337 on the IGI at www.familysearch.org
The sons for Joseph and Elizabeth are
1813 Sep 19 Edwin
1818 Sep 15 Joseph
1825 May 1 son (no name)
1818 June 1 Parker
and for John and Sarah
1817 Dec 28 Joseph
You will see from the IGI that the only Susan in the register is a daughter of John and Sarah who is baptised in 1822. This does not fit with your birth date unless she was quite old at baptisn and the vicar usually noted the age if that was the case. I see there is a marriage in Slaugham for John Anscombe to Sarah Tomsett in 1799.
Joseph and Elizabeth Parker married in Cuckfield in 1812.
Where did you get Susan's birth date from?
My copy of the register starts at 1813 so I could not look for Frederick Dancy - again it is a common name in Cuckfield and we have had several people into the museum researching it.

Hi Andrea,
Thank you very much for looking and trying to find an answer.
In Cuckfield in 1841 the only Susan Anscombe that it seems was ordinarily baptised in Cuckfield, the daughter of John and Sarah) had got married to an Edward Tullet (marriage registered Q2 1841 Cuckfield and these 4 were all enumerated together;
1841 in Cuckfield, all born in Sussex
John Anscombe 63, Ag Lab
Sarah Anscombe 60
Edward Tullett 20, Ag Lab
Susan Tullett 20
My Susan Anscombe had got married to Jesse Dancy and they had their first child by 1838 and they had both emigrated to the USA. They lived at Pittsford, Monroe, New York and then Perinton, Monroe, NY.
The evidence I have that Jesse Dancy's wife's surname was "Ancombe" was from the marriage record of their son William Dancy.
I know Jesse Dancy or his father came from Sydney Farm, Lindfield/Cuckfield due to the deaths of his siblings being recorded in the Burial records of Horsham Baptist Church [in West Sussex, England] :
Hannah dau of Joseph and Phoebe Dancy of Sidney, age 16, died June 1st 1820, buried 7th June 1820.
And, Daniel son of Joseph and Phoebe Dancy of Sidney, age 10 years 8 months, died June 10th Jun 1825, buried 16th June 1825." The names of these siblings of Jesse's tally in with all the children that are found in another individual record on the IGI for the children of Joseph Dancy and Phoebe.
The indication I got of Susan Anscombe's birthplace was that it was entered as Cuckfield in an individual family record on the IGI, which of course could be erroneous, found by seeking Jesse Dancy with Susan and looking at North American records.
I got Susan's approximate date of birth from the following website where it recorded the transcript of the words on her gravestone at Greenvale Rural Cemetery, East Church Street, Fairport, Monroe County, New York, USA. It explained she died on 6 May 1880, aged 63 years 3 months and 5 days, so d.o.b calculated from that.
http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/greenval.htm Found nothing after obtaining a copy of the Story of the Free Christian Church, Horsham by Emily Kensett.
I'm a bit stumped now! If anyone can think of any other ideas, these are welcome!
