1911 census
« on: Friday 16 January 09 18:59 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to search on the 1911 census (the free search). Each time I put in the details it tells me I must always use the surname field. I am putting the surname in but it does not seem to recognise it. Any idea's please.

if theres a chance that its been mis-tranned ( a large % have it seems), then just put a '.' or ',' in the surname box and try just forename, age etc .... look for a strange name and it might be yours - mis-spelled   ;)

the (,)  thingy

save those bony fingers - you dont need the parenthethis - a fullstop or even comma on its own is fine (maybe any character, havent tried   ;) )
