Seven-year-old WIPINIS DORIS FRIGGS of Lambeth was a MADAME, as were seven others, including her elder brother, Cecil.

Good morning too, and especially Dollylee - hi again!
I'm absolutely delighted to see how this thread has veered away from its original intent and has become a brilliant example of creative genealogy.
9 Knob polishers, indeed...I reckon from this lot we could draw up an amazing new song set to the music of the 12 days of Christmas, made up from the most bizarre (and hilariously amusing) occupations thrown up on here.
Glad to see that there was a bit of a break overnight to recharge batteries, too.  The thread went to sleep for a while once Gaie had gone to bed just after midnight.

Not sure but it looks like you can enter occupation codes. Various 3-digit numbers seem to have counts.

I should be empting my kitchen as a new one is being fitted on Monday, instead I've been sucked into the twilight zone! ;D

On a serious note thanks for the search tip, it will be easier to look for my grandfather when Wales comes online, he was a ventriloquist.  I found 11 ventriloquists and 11 magicians!  Now I must go and empty that kitchen - but I'll be back :)

Paul

There's an explanation of what the various codes mean on the 1911 census site, Paul  :)
