Can anything be done with this old newspaper cutting - it is in a rather fragile state.

Hi Alexena,

The best idea would be to get a print of the original photo.  Have you tried contacting the Times of Malta[/u]?  They have an email there for their archives and you are lucky enough to have the date of publication.

Alternatively you can try scanning the cutting with a black sheet behind it to reduce the bleed through.  Look for a "descreening" option on your scanner software and experiment with different settings (150/95/ etc) to reduce the dots.

Regards,

Hi Bruce,

Welcome to rootschat.  :D :D :D

Thank you for your suggestions. I think I will contact the Times of Malta to see if they have any copies of the paper in their archives. I will have a go scanning the cutting with a black sheet behind to see if it helps and also see if I have a descreening option to try out.
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Dave,  :)

Thank you for your great effort, I know it was a hard one to do and I don't think it you could get it any better. I'll have a go with Bruce's suggestions and see what I come up with.

Cheers Alexena  :) :)

If they have the paper in their archives they may very well have the original photo or the negative and a print of that will be much better.

Hi Mike, :)

The person I am interested in is third from the left in the front row. I can see it isn't easy to do a newspaper cutting, I wouldn't know where to start :-\
