Thanks for figuring that one out, John.

A Google search for "Idris Ley" revealed that there is an S. Idris Ley Award at King's College in Wilkes-Barre.  Perhaps that's named after your guy or a son of his?

You're quite welcome.

On findagrave.com, there is an entry for Sydney S. Ley, born 1905 and died 1952, buried in Cedar Crest Cemetery, Trucksville, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

I also found Amelia Ley traveling by herself on the SS Majestic from Southampton to New York, arriving 29 Aug. 1933.  Her nearest relative was listed as her brother Mr. A. Baxter, 127 Danygraig Rd., Swansea.  She was in Pa. from 1927 to 1933 and last left on 3 Jun. 1933.  Her home was 26 South Sherman St., Wilkes Barre.  There's handwriting that looks something like "Med center - paine from dislocation of hip - which may affect (?)  Landing justified."

Shelly what a lot of information you have given me and I recognise some of the road names and places too, plus how strange that Robert John Ley, when he first emigrated was going to join a friend Mrs A Thomas, 'Thomas' is also a family name but as they have stated friend I suspect that it is all she was and not a relative

I cannot get over the information you have given me, even their height and colour of hair and eyes, wow!!!

So much to go on and all thanks to you

A Big THANKYOU ;D

There's a volunteer on raogk.org who does look-ups for Luzerne Co. in Wilkes-Barre newspapers, so you might want to see if there's an obit for Annie available.  If that doesn't pan out, maybe try e-mailing the Kingston, Pa. library, as it looks like she lived there for many years.

Hi, just discovered this forum.

My great-grandfather was called John Rees and his wife Annie Rees and they lived at Sunnybank, Brynavon Terrace.  In fact my great aunt, Amelia, only died a couple of years ago (their daughter, and a sister to my nan on my father's side).

My nan always talked about her cousin Idris, and his wife Bertha - who she visited quite frequently in Wilkes Barre when she was alive.  Idris and Bertha's son, Ronald Ley, is now deceased, but his family are still in Pennsylvania.

It was really interesting to see another branch of the family.  It seems like my great grandmother was amelia ley's sister.
