Hello Fiona,

There is only two O'Brien's listed in the book.
 Eugene born 1900, Co Donegal
 William born 1812, Co Cork

You can write to the Garda archives, who's address is on page 1 of this thread.

Good Luck

some Thom's 1914 details from the Law Directory/Customs section :

Dublin Port & Docks Board, Office - Westmoreland-street.

(members of the board, shipping members, clerks & officials....etc)

    housekeeper, Edward Dowzard.

Custom House Docks & Warehouses Dept.

    (manager, chief clerk, cashier etc..)

    Police superintendent : E. Dowzard

If it's the Edward you are looking for it looks like he was  attached to Customs & Excise and would seem to be the same Edward mentioned in the other posting with a residence at Newbridge Ave - http://www.rootschat.com/links/0720/

There are two Edward Dowzards in the 1911 census! The house keeper etc. is at 19, Westmoreland St., with his wife and 2 daughters.
The police superintendant is at Ashdale road.

I am confused now!
First I can never find a Dowzard, now I have 2!

I am going to have to invest in some certs. to sort them out!

I forgot to say he was a constable if thats any help?

There as another O'Brien that is listed in DMP by the name of Mathew born Meath 1862 died in Dublin in 1918.I was hoping he was my GGrandfather  who I have been trying to trace for years as my GGrandfather was shown as a constable on his daughters (Annie) marriage certificate in 1910 but from infomation from his Grandson it would appear to different Matthew. although there are no other Matthews listed that I know of. Any advice welcomed

Have now received the copies of marriage entries for both Edward Dowzards.

The younger one married Mary Anne O'Grady 10th April 1888 at the parish church of St. Catherines. His father was also Edward Dowzard, my gt gt gr father. So my gt gr mother Susan Boshell nee Dowzard was his sister! :o He was also living at 28, Cork St., where his parents lived.

The older Edward Dowzard married Mary Anne Ferguson 7th June 1879 at St James. His father was George, a farmer.

More to think about!

hi Kooky,

had a quick look at he address you mentioned.. in case it provides some clues..

Thom's directory 1894 - Cork Street

  26 and 27 Tenements,
  28 Mrs Dowzard
  28 William Hatch, dairy,

no. 28 is skipped over in 1884 directory - just the tenements at 26/27 and William Hatch at number 28 1/2

in 1914 there's a Miss Dowzard at the same address
