Kidbrooke - RFC / RAF - WW1
« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 02:36 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone got any details, info or pictures of Kidbrooke during WW1 and the months after before demobbing.  I have a number of relative that were based there (My G Grandparents). A Royal Flying Corps member who transfered to RAF on 1st Apr 1918 (Founder Member) and his to be wife, who joined up in Jan 1919 for 8 months service at Kidbrooke in the WRAF.

I have pictures of them in uniform and some service records.

What I want to know, is more about the units at Kidbrook in WW1.  There is lots about it in WW2.
So far I understand that it was No.1 Stores Depot for the RAF (Would like to know if it was RFC before 1 Apr 18), it also had a Barrage Balloon Unit (No.1 Balloon Barrage Centre). It would be great if this could be confirmed and even better any details.
The Balloon unit would have been a large organisation with Sqns below it, has anyone any idea of the unit numbers.  (I know the ones at Kidbrook for WW2, the ones in WW1 would be brand new for the creation of the RAF).

Anything on Kidbrook (not not RAF Kidbrook - as it wasn't called that until much later) would be much appreciated.

Thanks
