« on: Monday 12 January 09 16:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi to anyone able to help.I am researching my family history and am looking for information on my great, great grandfather Joseph Hillis born in County Down and living in Rigg,Glassford,Lanarkshire. He was married on 28th May 1879 to Catherine Gallagher in Chapelton and she was resident in Shawtonhill,Glassford. They were both farm servants at the time. His parents were John and Margaret Hillis and hers were Patrick and Ann Gallagher (nae Campbell).I have found them both on the 1881 cencus living in Glasgow and then on the 1901 cencus living in East Kilbride.I am very new to all this family history stuff,so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Davd,

Liz from Nelson, New Zealand. Have just seen your message. A year ago, so hope you have same email. My Great Grand Mother was Mary HILLIS, Joseph's sister. Mary died in Dundee in 1906. For years now on and off I have tried to find out which part of Ireland they came from. I believe on one of Joseph's census forms, it said Down, but Ireland has not the best records, it makes it a little bit harder.

Mary never got married to my Great Grand father John BUTCHART, but they had a few children. My Grand Father Thomas BUTCHART, being one of them.
There is a lady called Fiona, who does research and Joseph was probably her Great Grand father as well. Do you know her.

What was your Grand father's name? Would love to hear from you, I use various sites and have a few certificates etc.

Regards,

Liz Reeve
