Hill Family Completed
« on: Monday 12 January 09 14:35 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information, re  Hill family line.
My Grandfathers name was Ezra and he married Sarah Lomas in 1916. They where publicans  and the last address for them was the Liberal club in New Mills before they died. I would love to hear from anyone  with any information re the above.
The Hill family line seemed to come from Fernilee and High Peak.
Also could someone tell me what  would be the name of the local newspapers  for the New MIlls area and also Knutsford around 1959.
Thanks
Matsmam

This seems to be the most likely family for him. It is the only one with an Ezra, of the right sort of age, in Derbishire, 1901

RG13/3237/19/7

Brownside, Bugsworth and Chinley

Adam Hill, head, 34, Coal Miner, hewer, born Chapel-en-le-Frith
Elizabeth, wife, 40, Bugsworth
Mary, dau, 17,            "
Ezra, son, 9                "
Margaret, dau, 6          "
Adam, son, 2               "

Do you have the marriage certificate because that should have Ezra's father's name on it and could therefore prove this as his family.

Hi Jen,
thankyou v much for your lookup.
However I feel I may have  misslead you as to the kind of information I  am looking for (sorry) I have actually researched  the family back to  early 1800's. What I cant find out is what Public houses Ezra may have run etc.
Also what local newspapers would have circulated   around 1959 because  my father Harry, Ezra son died  weeks before I was born (oct 1959) and Ezra some weeks after him. I am looking to find obituaries or some other  information from Ezra or Sarah's family descendants.
Thanks again for your reply.

Not sure that I can necessarily help you but I have been looking for Mary Ann Hill bC1826 who married 1846 James Wyatt bC1824 Glossop.
When she died 1902 she was interred as Mary Ann Wyatt at Peak Forest.
Assuming that there must have been a Hill connection at Peak Forest.I noticed that in 1881 there were several Hill families in Peak Forest including George Hill and family located at the Devonshire Arms at Peak Forest.
He was a licensed victualler and farmer of 19 acres. They had living with them a James Wyatt 8 months,a nurse child and now wonder if this child was being cared for on behalf of James and Mary Ann (Hill) Wyatt. There were several other Hill families.
Wyatt and Wood of Glossop, Derbyshire. Longstaff of Bishop Auckland,Durham. Harry of St Austell and St Kew,Cornwall. Charters of County Antrim.Knight of Warwickshire.Hendy of Ballyedmonduff.

Hi, thankyou for looking at my post.
I have research on my Hill family going back to 1791.
There were two Georges, one born 1791 and the other his son 1818, both born in the Peak forest, and both Innkeepers.
I have only really concentrated on my direct line, and not all of the family . The only Mary I have was my grandfathers sister born 1884.
I would make a bet though that your line will be connected somehow.

Thank you Matmam
Sorry I couldn't help.
Should you have any information on Mary Ann Hill who married James Wyatt 1846 I will be most appreciative.
As Mary Wyatt she was back in Chapel En Le Frith,Hayfield Rd East, aged 75 living on her own means according to the 1901 Census.I don't think they had any children unless the nurse child with a Hill family in 1881 was there's.
I would like to discover her parents.
Regards
Wyatt and Wood of Glossop, Derbyshire. Longstaff of Bishop Auckland,Durham. Harry of St Austell and St Kew,Cornwall. Charters of County Antrim.Knight of Warwickshire.Hendy of Ballyedmonduff.
