Bedminster Union Poorhouse, Long Ashton
« on: Monday 12 January 09 01:12 GMT (UK) »
many of my relatives were in the Bedminster Union Poorhouse in Long Ashton.  Is there a list somewhere of inmates, by date entering and leaving the poorhouse, & their ages & any other details?

(especially from ~1839-1870)

I can get some of this information indirectly through the censuses, and I've gone through the Long Ashton parish registers, which sometimes list baptisms and burials where it is obvious the people are from the poorhouse.

I'm aware of this site:
http://www.gertlushonline.co.uk/bedminster-workhouse.html

which lists a broken link: Bristol Orphanage Census 1851

at the end.

Jan 16 - I just became aware of this book ""Paupers in Workhouses 1861".  There are no Beachams in the 10% indexed sample, but does anyone have access to the whole book, for BEACHAM in Somerset or Gloucestershire?  Of course it would just be for 1861, but would be better than nothing.

Charles
