Hello Phil and Tati- im researching the same line and have had some useful help from Gretchen too. If that 1840 Henry born in Clifton is the Henry you're looking for we can go straight back to the late 1600s. Im a descendent of Edward William his son. Henry's father was this Thomas http://www.march-genealogy.co.uk/Genealogy/Legacy/Family/f147.htm#i4439

We can go back to Samuel and his family seemingly all from Westerleigh South Glocs. Im having little progress going further but I have stumbled across a will from 1635 in Westerleigh that mentions a Margaret Ponting - which has to indicate family residence in the village as far back as then.

I was expecting a migration from Somerset or North Wiltshire in my tree as those 2 areas seem to contain the vast bulk of all the Pontings that I can see.

Let me know if i can help further,
Rob

Many thanks Rob

I was helping Gretchen, but don't have any links to this family.

I'm hoping she will pick up on your excellent and very helpful posting.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to write.

Kind regards

Phil
