Huge car park as well! Glad you lived to tell the tale though Barbara, would hate for you to be anyone's ancestor just yet!  ;) They may have you down as the old 'un but you're not that old !

Thank you for trying to get to the cemeteries.

Get better soon Nutty, and glad to hear that Barbara and Madpants at least had a nice lunch.

Received the detailed cemetery plans today with all the names and numbers circled, so it shouldn't take us too long to find them when we eventually go.  Doesn't mean there are headstones though, so don't all get too excited, hopefully the weather will pick up and we can get there soon.

Check here before planning your expedition Barbara! We don't want you getting frozen!

Joking apart, I've always found the site to be pretty accurate

Well it's not raining!  Expedition on again, got maps, compass, camera, boots, wish us luck and hope all graves have headstones!

Will report back later  ;D

Well it was not a great success, although it was nice to get out in the fresh air and mud for a couple of hours   ;)

Out of the 2 cemeteries (Linthorpe and St. Joseph's North Ormesby) and the 9 graves visited, there was only one with a headstone - and that had a big bushy fir tree growing right in front of the stone which madpants kindly pulled aside so that I could take a photo.

Kathc, you're the winner!  please pm me your email address so I can send you the pics, inscription reads:

In loving memory of our dear parents, Alice Martha Clews died 4th January 1940 age 56 years
John Clews died 26th February 1958 age 78 years
our dear sisters Gladys May Clews died 3rd August 1927 age 2 years
Winifred Maud Clews died 14th August 1987 age 70 years
Forever in our thoughts

For everyone else, I'm sorry, no headstones, but we found the places they were buried, and I took photos of the areas.  If you would like copies of those photos, please pm me your email addresses.

Jen, Harriet was under a lovely old tree with snowdrops all around  :)

There was another gravestone, right plot, but for the wrong name:-
JonathanW, the grave number for William Bingham did have a headstone, but for a different person, whether a relation or not I don't know, but took a photo of it too. The name was Mary Firth, who died May 4th 1891 - is she connected to your Binghams?

Barbara  :)

Hallo Barbara, Madpants and Nutty,

thank you very, very much for looking.  At least you found the plot.

Would love a picture of the area.  Have PM'ed with email address.

Thanks again, and glad you had a good day out.
