RC Marriage Records for Devonport
« on: Friday 09 January 09 21:36 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a marriage record that was possibly RC that took place in Devonport between 1829 and 1837.  These are held at the Plymouth Diocesian Archive - have been to their website and the email address that they have is not valid.  Has anybody any exerience of this archive or anywhere else where I could search them ?

Thanks,

Jason

What names are you looking for? Between 1754 and 1837, all marriages had to be conducted by the Church of England or they were not considered valid. So, it is more likely that they were married in a  C of E Church.

Hi,
Thanks for replying on this.  Someone did a search for me before with no luck.  I am a bit puzzled as know that they were married.  Michael Quirk and Elizabeth Leader - earliest possible date 1829 latest 1837, more likely towards the end of that span.  He was based in MountWise with the 98th regiment of Foot and she lived in Devonport so assumed they would be married somewhere local.   I am hoping that I may find his Fathers name on the marriage register - this would enable me to link him to a probable family in Limerick !  So pivotal piece of information.  Any ideas would be greatly appreicated - Cheers - Jason
