Diamond Merchant
« on: Friday 09 January 09 11:42 GMT (UK) »
According to family history, my great great aunt married a diamond merchant from Australia called William B. Purcell in Manhattan in February 1906.   She was born in Dublin and was a governess in Paris.   I would love to know their story.    Her name was Selina Vincent Kavanagh.   The marriage didn't last long as she got married again in London in 1916.

Can anyone help?

Hi Cathy,

I'm wondering if Selina travelled to Manhattan on her own, did she meet William in Paris and travel with him or did she travel with the family for whom she was acting as a governess.

Would the passenger lists of the crossings which took place between 1864 to 1936, on the transatlantic lines of Compagnie Générale Transatlantique show anything?  www.frenchlines.com/passenger_index_en.php
