Begley of Toronto Ontario
« on: Thursday 08 January 09 17:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I'm looking for information on My great Uncle James Begley and his family, he married Margaret Goodsell and they had 2 children, Hettie I think is a shortform for Henrietta??? and James, Now I've looked everywhere for the two children and cannot find them, I know they were home for their fathers funeral in Aug 1947
In the Obit it states that Hattie (Mrs Edgar Halliday) of 4th Ave Oakville Ontairo and James Begley of Paris Ontairo. I've searched old Phone books/records etc and no such luck?? am I missing something??? James and Hettie were born around 1913/1915??  thanks Karen :-\

Karen also knows this:
Quote
Margaret Goodsell born 1891 Brents Faversham and died 1949 Toronto Ontario, she married James Begley in 1912 in Toronto and had 2 children James and Hattie Begley ( James and Margaret were my great Aunt and Uncle).
The problem, is, Karen, that the privacy laws in Canada prevent you from accessing anything after the marriage & births will only be available up to 1912 sometime this year....

I had a look at some city directories at the Toronto Central Reference Library.  There aren't a lot for Oakville and they're sporadic.  Here's what I found:

1960
Halliday Edgar M sign pntr 184 Kerr n h same
Halliday Margt slsldy The Golden Hour r 184 Kerr n
Halliday Alex G sls manager Merck Sharp & Dohme h 422 Sandmere place

1962
Halliday Alex dist slsmgr Merck Sharp & Dohme h 1176 Willowbrook dr
Halliday J Donald slsmn Sonoco Prod Co h 1332 Amber cres

1965 - no Hallidays

1971
Halliday Alastair C (Patricia) slsmn International Chinaware h164 Douglas Av
"  Edgar M (Hettie) h4210 Fourth Line N
"  Kenneth S (Mary) asmblr Ford h1503 Constance Dr
"  Murray J (Lorraine) chartered acct Clarkson Gordon & Co h2207 Sunnyvale Dr
"  Robt r1571 Venetia Dr
"  Robt B (Susan) slsmn Corbett Sports Ltd h602, 125 Forsythe

1973
Halliday Alastair C (Patricia) slsmn Internatl Chinaware Ltd h164 Douglas Av
Halliday Bob truck driver r126 Stewart
"  Edgar M (Hettie) farmer h4210 Fourth Line Rd
"  Kenneth S (Mary) asmblr Ford Mtrs Co Ltd h1503 Constance Dr
"  Murray J (Lorraine) chartered acct Clarkson Gordon & Co Ltd h2207 Sunnyvale Dr
"  Robt r1571 Venetia Dr

1975
Halliday Alastair C & Patricia; slsmn Internatl Chinaware h164 Douglas Av
"  Douglas & Hazel; management consultant Currie Coopepers Lybrand h269 Spruce
"  Edgar M h4210 Fourth Line
"  Kenneth S & Mary; asmblr Ford Mtr h1503 Constance Dr
"  Robt r1571 Venetia Dr

There weren't any books for Paris but since it's only 8 miles or so from Brantford, I'll have a look for James Begley in the Brantford books on my next visit.  They go up to 1964.

I hope there's a lead in there somewhere.
