I am looking for Robert Monk, whose British Army records state that he was born in St Giles in the parish of St Giles, Oxford in 1780.
He was a breeches maker.
I have not been able to find any birth or marriage records online (yet!).
He joined the Army in 1805, 30th Regiment of Foot and was posted to India in 1806, where he remained until his death in 1853.
He married Mary and had 9 children in India.
That's all I know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am in Australia, so it's a bit difficult for me to visit anyone to view records other than online.

Dear Celeste

welcome to Rootschat!

I think that you'll probably get a better response to your query if you start a new post, named with the surname of your family and the parish.

It gets a bit confusing if you start a new enquiry within an exisiting one.

good luck!

You might have more luck looking for Armsworth tithing district in Old Alresford.  Sometimes the name comes up Harmsworth due to the habit of the English to add an "haitch" before an "a" where there is none and subtract one when there is an "haitch".  The two forms Harmsworth and Armsworth seem to be used interchangeably in some instances. You also see Alresford misspelled Arlesford as well.

see this book pages

Harmsworth has become a surname in its own right.

Thank you so much for the information,  I had not located the parish registers for Armsworth so perhaps they are under Old Alresford.
