scottish 1871 census look up

ho all -happy new year to all

i am after the 1871 census for
william john mcginn born 21/10/1864 in  stevenston  ayr, mainly to see who parents were?
hopefully they are john and mary
any help apprieciated

Had look in Scotlandspeople and Found The Birth Certificate for William John McGinn and his father was indeed John I cant make out his Mothers Name. they were Married on the 29 Apr 1852 in Ayr. Hope this helps a wee bit

Hello Linda,

The parents names of William John Mcginn, born 1864 Stevenston, Ayr. were John McGinn, and Maryanne McCurry. but be aware of the spelling of the name McCurry.

On the 1861. census index for Stevenston, Ayr, there is this family.

McGinn MaryAnne, age 40 years, born Ireland,
McGinn Patrick, age 6 years, born Stevenston,
McGinn Hugh, age 1 year, born Stevenston.

There is a birth for Hugh McGinn, in Stevenston, 1860, to parents John McGinn, and MaryAnne McCurrie.

The father John McGinn, alas is not with the family in 1861.

Hi Linda,

I just saw this thread .I'm wondering if the people on this census are my family also.My ancestor is Maryanne McGinn,she had a son William John born about 1867 in Ayr,father John.William moved to the north east of England,married there and his mum Maryanne stayed with him.I'm wondering if this is the same family?On the IGI there are James,Hugh and William John born to parents John McGinn and Maryanne McCurrie.What do you think?
