evan owen and anne (ginnie) owen llanrwst
« on: Tuesday 06 January 09 17:19 GMT (UK) »
evan and anne owen lived at 9 bridge st. llanrwst, they ran a seed store.
evan died 22/06/1917
anne died 15/12/1946

i am trying to find anne owens maiden name to see if she is a relative.  i think she may have had 2 sisters,  florrie and sallie,  these are the spellings i have come across in diaries.  anne may have been a hughes and may also have had a brother james.
the hughes connection is by a g g g'mother anne hughes who's father may have been a hugh hughes.

the hugh hughes family moved from hornby st. liverpool to live at one point possibly during 1857 to 1878 at 'tyn twll' which i believe is trefor.  hugh hughes had taken out a 21 year lease on a lead mine in that area.  if margaret hughes was his daughter, she would have been born there i suppose.

Hi purlin

What age were evan and anne when they died?  Do you have them on all the censuses?

Hi Purlin,

Evan Owen, seedsman is on the 1901 census for llanrwst living in bridge Street but his wife's name is Jane. This would explain the Ginnie which is often used for Jane in these parts. i have never heard it use for Anne.

They were both born in Llanrwst. In 1901 he is 48 and she is 40.

Are you sure about Tyn twll Trevor? I ask as there is a Tyn Twll at Trefriw, 3 miles from Llanrwst in an area full of leadmines?

I will go back through the censuses to see what I can find.

hi titch,
thanks for that, so its evan b. 1853 and jane born 1861 both born llanwrst,

i think tyn twyll and the lead mine must be situated at trefriw. i have a photograph of the house somewhere i can dig it out tomorrow.  i have had it pointed out to me many many years ago!  i remember it being quite an imposing 2 storey stone construction set back off the road, some distance from llanrwst.

hi hiareth and titch,

i haven't been able to track the couple down at all on any censuses.  the information i have is from diary extracts.  i have the 21 year lease which is quite an impressive affair on parchment.   the details don't really help me that much though, other than to point to hugh hughes (who i think is the father of anne hughes my gg g'mother, living in liverpool before moving to trefriw.  but he may equally have been born in trevriw before moving to liverpool!!  i know that my grandmother, mary selina jones, nee hughes,  was constantly being visited by jane owen when she lived in liverpool.  also,  that mary selina jones was always visiting and staying with jane owen at bridge st.  this is what makes me wonder if they could be  related.

thank you paul,

this information will surely help in my understanding of the two families connections.  i have to admit though that at this moment in time, its a complete puzzle!  but then surely, thats what makes it all so interesting isn't it!
