Carlisle Family, Antrim.
« on: Tuesday 06 January 09 15:07 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone give me any information on a James Carlisle born approx 1827.  James married Jane Todd in 1850, and the only child I can find at the moment is a Robert James Carlisle born 1875?

Would be grateful if anyone could direct me further with this.

Regards

IGI lists another son- Thompson born 16 June 1877 Ballycorr, Antrim (this may be district rather than actual townland).
You would probably need to search for church records (if they exist), especially to find any children born from the marriage in 1850 to the start of civil registration of births in 1864.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I've been researching some Carlisle family members in Lisburn - my Great Great Great Grandmother was 'Alice Carlisle' from Lisburn, father was a John Carlisle.

Alice married Allen McNeill, 15th August 1846 in Lisburn Civil Registrars Office - i'm only beginning to look into the family in more depth now - I believe Alice had the following siblings - Selina (married George Wilson), Margaret (married James Blakely), Mary (married John Dalton) and William (married Margaret Dornan).

Haven't been able to work out who Alice's mother was yet though, any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi,
   Something slightly odd!

29 Dec 1849 Thomas Carlile (sic) married Jane Todd in Ballyeaston First Presbyterian Church, Ballycor.

19 Apr 1850 James Carlile  married Jane Todd in Ballyeaston First Presbyterian Church, Ballycor.

Info is from Emerald Ancestors.

Also on the Ulster Historical Foundation site: Thomas Carlisle's (1849) father is listed as 'James' whilst James (1850) also has a father called James - so it is safe to assume they are brothers.

As for Jane, I believe it is the same one - with a father called John that married both of these Carlisle brothers.

The key would be to view the second marriage's details - this can be done for £4 through the Ulster Historical Foundation site and would indicate whether she was widowed or not.

Hi,
My thoughts as well only I am not sure what was allowed in the Presbyterian Church. The two marriages are very close together and the IGI gives the ages of James and Jane as 22.
