Hello Irishbrummie, I think your grandmother was my husband's aunt. We are trying to trace the Sincup family tree. We think her parents were John Sincup and Effie Owen and that she was born in Newport, Shropshire about 1906. Please let us know if we are on the right track. We do not know of any Sincups in the Newport are at present, but their descendants are there. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Mark, sorry to be so long replying. My husband's name is David and his mother"s name was Elsie May Sincup before she married. She had three sisters, one of which was your grandmother.The other two were Eliza Jane Sincup and Emma Owen Sincup. They each had families but of course did not pass on the Sincup name. It appears that Elsie was born in the workhouse in Newport Shropshire, and she her mother and two of the three sisters all lived in the workhouse for a while. We don't know much about your grandmother at all, except that she moved to Birmingham.
We would be delighted if you could tell us more about your branch of the family. Are you my husband's second cousin? I'm never sure how these things work

Hi Chris,

Yes I am Davids 2nd cousin & he is my moms cousin, My grandmother Mary & her sister Emma were placed in a home for girls in edgmonton in Newport which was ran by Ms Mary Selina Roddam, when Elsie was about 3 years of age she joined them. Elsie was my Grandmothers favourite sister & they were very close, she died in 1970 when I first started doing family research on the sincup family 13 years ago skeletons were jumping out of the closets left right & centre, it was very interesting & I learned what our family had to go through for us to exsist today. it was not the 1st time that they had been in the Workhouse, they had been in the Wellington Workhouse as well before Elsie was born.
