Hi Stoney
What a smashing picture!
I see what you mean about real or imagined. I zoomed in and looked at the sign post - "Prosperity" and "Health"! He was definitely thinking about the crossroads of life wasn't he?
I Googled but you've given it a good go. I mostly found yourposts!
I did Google the web as opposed to images and found this page on the National Archives search.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/058m/ It's a really long page and the entry is about two thirds of the way down.
It's part of the online catalogue for Cumbria Recrd Office Kendal.
Entry is from the archive of Thomas H Mawson & Son Landscape Architects Lancaster.

Part XXV!! Perspectives of Glinger Bank, Longtown for Captain Westoll (See: WDB 86/A, 39, photo 114.)I've only copied the immediate part I came to, fromm Google, so you're probably better going to the National Archives search. There may be a photo - though later than your grandfather's time. If you got in touch they might do you a photocopy of it?
Good luck!
By the way I love the phot of your grandfather's business. I used to walk past there every day!
Best wishes
Emms
