Hi a.thompson,

Not having much luck with this. I do tend to agree that Archibald was probably the son of Archibald and Jesse. Because they were not married at the time it was not possible to list him on the Birth Cert. It does appear the parents were probably living as man and wife at the time of the marriage. Now the marriage entry just lists Archibald's father as James. We have no idea where he was living at the time. Archibald being a soldier in 1876 does not mean he was a soldier or even in Devon in 1871. He may have only been there for a short time. I see no reason to believe either Archibald or his father James were in Devon in 1871. A soldier on the base would not likely be there with his parents. Hopefully someone will turn up something after the marriage. So far I have been unable to locate them.

MODERATOR COMMENT: Sorry, I have tried to split and merge the information which was not connected to your 1841 census lookup thread, but was unable to do so without having Barbara as the original poster so have now merged it all.

As I said above by what we can see I have no reason to believe James or Archibald were from Devon. I hope Archibald can be found after the marriage

Cheers Kris  :)

thanks . I do know that there son Archibald married Mabel Berry daughter of James and Elizabeth Berry in1904 while living at 57 Cecil Street I think with Mabel's parents .
In 1913 Archibald and Mabel with their children moved up here to Birkenhead where he took a job at cammelairds ship builders. He eventually died living here in 1921 and she lived until 1945.

It might be worth getting the 1919 death cert to see if any further information is given, you can check with the local registrar first, or the GRO, to see if his widow Jessie's name is given to make sure it's the right cert before you buy it.

Also I did have access to the 1911 Devon census and could not find anything on that about them even though I found James Berry Archibald juniors father in law still living at 52 Cecil street Plymouth
