The Family seem to have spread about, makes you wonder where you could have been if it was your direct ancestor that had gone and not the other brother  :(

Whoops, I accidentally modified my previous post, when I meant to quote it.   :-[

I meant to post this.  I'll have to go back and fix the other.

Quote
From The Lincoln County Leader - "New arrivals: H R Sturdevant and Mrs J P Owram and families, May 16 1895"

Keeping in line with this -

http://users.wi.net/~census/lesson18.html

Oram, Jenne Sturdevant (1825-1907) d/o Sam Sturdevant

Sturdevant, Hamilton R (?-?); Sturdevant, Ira Claire Starr (1854-1925); Sturdevant, Marion Sanford (?-?) pvt WWI

Maybe there is a Starr relative, but not her father?

I agree with you that the Starrs are related...... :)

I was looking for Joseph in the census records for 1851 and 1861 because he has been found in 1841 and 1871.

I found his mum in 1851 and 1861 but no Joseph so I wonder when he left Britain  ???

It would be too much of a coincidence for the Starrs to be a differant family, re Joseph I've spent many an hour searching the 51 an 61 census returns but to no avail

ps the local papers for that period were always advertising emigrant ships to various places

Coincidentally I found a Mr. Owran age 21 occupation Tailor departing Liverpool and arriving in Philadelphia on 9 Sep 1853 aboard the ship City of Manchester.

But....there is one snag.

Under the heading "What country belonging to?" they have put U.S.A.
Under the heading "What country intention to become inhabitants?" it says U.S.A.

The age and occupation fit, puzzling re country from though, could be an honest mistake in his eagerness to get aboard
