South Lancs. Regiment

I am trying to trace details of my uncle HAROLD CLAYTON who served in South Lancs Regt.  I understand he had a leg wound from fighting in France WW1 but know nothing else - other than he survived. because I knew him well as a child

I can't find him in WW1 records so far

Can anyone offer any tips or help.

Was he 31397 Pte Harold Clayton? If so his Medal Index Card is on Ancestry
But it just confirms that he was awarded the British War and Victory Medals went overseas no earlier than Jan 1916.
No other info.Cant see him on the Pension or service records but theres a lot to his name to go through.

Three men called Harold Clayton earned WW1 medals while serving with the South Lancs during WW1. If you have an Ancestry account you can check to see if this papers are available online - they have published all Cs. To ensure you have the right one you will need his place and year of birth, and preferably next of kin information. Even if his papers did not survive you may be able to eliminate the other two.

None of the three South Lancs men died, so you cannot eliminate any of the three.

Even if his papers did not survive, but you can find his number, you can usually discover his battalion, and maybe when he enlisted.
