Hi Michael

My g/grandmother Ellen Morris (1867) married Thomas Bennett (1867).
No marriage can be found for them which means either they were not married or records have been destroyed.  They had 10 children including my grandfather. Their first child was John in 1889 and on 1891 census they live at Cramlington.  Ellen is down as Helena and her DOB is 1868.

I am wondering if Ellen Morris born Wooler did not marry George Morris and just lived together as man and wife. Therefore there would be no marriage cert for them either.

I could order birth cert for Ellen Morris (1867) and it might have George Morris as her father but how would I know for definate if it was the right Ellen Morris.  Could there be another Ellen Morris born 1868? I have to try and remember that lots of mistakes were recorded on census (this is my downfall).

I do not have full access to BMD but have been told that no cert exists for Ellen and Thomas.

Thanks again

Sparkle,

OK, leaving aside the lack of marriage record for the moment, how do you know that Thomas Bennett's wife/partner's surname  was  Morris/s ?

Is it from birth certs of their children ?

Hi Anna and Michael

Just to let you know that I ordered and have recieved birth cert of Ellen Morris 1867 to see if I could find a connection to George Morris.  I now know that Ellen 1867 is definately my g grandmother.

Her birth cert states George Morris as father and Ellen Morris (formerly Chisholm) as her mother.

I mentioned before that the mother of Ellen 1867 and the father of her husband Thomas Bennett married - John Bennett and Helen Moris (her father being James Chisholm).

On LDS it has John Bennett down as marring an Elizabeth this had put me off the scent for quite a while

What a relief that that particular mystery is solved  - hope I haven't given you both a headache as it's all very confusing.

Thanks again for trying to help me

Kind regards

Hi Sparkle, I have just surfing and happened on your search for Ellen Chisholm, not a blood relation to me although George Aston Morris is my G grandfather. My father was Henry Aston Morris, his father was William Aston Morris and then to George Aston Morris. Do you have any information on the parents etc of George Aston Morris.
Craig.
