Cannot see him in Cuckfield baptisms and unfortunately the transcript I have of Slaugham does not cover those years so you would need the original register at Chichester.
As he is a master wheelwright have you looked at apprenticeship records?

Thanks Andrea.

How and where exactly do I consult apprenticeship records? We know he became a master wheewlwright, but we don't know when.

Many thanks

Stephen

If they still exist the record office will know where they are.   Some Guilds records are at the Guildhall library in London.  Have you looked at the A2A site to see what comes up for Bax there?   I expect you have - there are lots of entries.

Hi Stephen
Have only just seen you messages about the BAX family.  My gr gr grandfather was John BAX who married Elizabeth Thorpe.  John was born 1799, censuses have always indicated Chailey however I have not been able to find his birth.  I have tried to link him to the BAX's at Newick no but no luck so far
Would appreciate any information who may have.  I have birth dates etc on all John and Elizabth's children
Best wishes

I too have a lot on John Bax. I will send you a personal message through the system so we can exchange information.

Thanks and best wishes
