Hello Amanda,

This looks like a tough one.

No specific date of birth, no address, no maiden name for Isabella's mother and no specific date for her father's death. It looks as though someone will have to do look ups in both the 1901 Census and all the Belfast and Province of Ulster Street Directories published between 1900 and 1914 and note all Michael Diamonds. This may establish the address of the family. Were they of the Roman Catholic faith ?

Best Wishes, Christopher

Hi Christopher,

I am not too sure if they were Catholics Isabella DIAMOND was my Grans mother and  she was Protestant until she married my grandfather and switched then, so as far a  i know her mother must have been protestant too (although not sure ).
Isabella's mothers maiden name was noted on marriage cert as DIAMOND although i am not sure if this is because Isabella didn't know otherwise or if it is correct.
It is from the marriage cert that i have got Isabella year of birth. I have searched the 1901 census for her in Scotland and found no matches so far!
I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thanks for your reply
Amanda

Hello Amanda,

I do not know if this information will be useful or not - http://www.proni.gov.uk/ulstercovenantsearch.
The Ulster Covenant 1912 is showing a number of Diamonds. I've checked 11 men's names.
If you think of a few more check them at this site and post the ones with the Belfast addresses.
The results I obtained are as follows -
Michael Diamond - Portrush, Co. Antrim
Edward Diamond - Baden Powell Street, Belfast
Robert Diamond - 200, Antrim Road, Belfast
Samuel Diamond - 59, Crumlin Road, Belfast
The following either lived in the country or produced a nil result -
Albert, Alexander, James, John, Thomas and William

Best Wishes, Christopher

Hi don't know if this will help.

1896 Belfast

Bell Diamond Spirit & Grocer 24 Albion St of Sandy Row.
As far as i know Bell is sort for Isabella.
Sandy Row is a Protestant part of Belfast.

Hei Folks,

I hope you've made a couple of typos there Audrey. Your Isabella born 1874 and another Isabella born 1888 is no problem. That was common. A child died and another one born sometime later would have been given the same name. The problem that I see is one was born in Belfast and the other in Portrush. The later child was born in Belfast but moved to Scotland. There was a sailing from both Belfast and Portrush to Scotland. There's still a bit of research required to see if we are looking at one or two different families here.

Best wishes,  Christopher

Chistopher
the only reason I added that  one was I thought it could of been  the same  family I realized it was much earlier than the Isabella that you were looking for
