Hi Jimmuck,

I note that you are new to this site, you have committed a no-no already, you are posting your query on another persons query this does not help people.  Perhaps you can go back and modify your entry by removing your query, and open a new one where rootchatters will try and help you.

Oh my God, I'm sorry to have committed a "No! No!" but, as you noted, I'm a 'Newbie' and here I thought I was contributing to a "Reid Thread" and would be providing an answer to THAT REID'S QUERY'
I was unaware that we had to start separate Threads for each 'Family name' please forgive my exuberance and mistake.

Hi Jimmuck,

Thanks for your prompt action, did not mean to sound bossy, but to assist you getting more out or Root Chat. If 2 subjects in one it gets messy, I will have a look at this subject, will look out for the other post, too.

Hi Jo,

Having difficulty finding Charles Moore in any census, did he stay in Glasgow. I have found note of Dunn & Moore, which was formed by amalgamation of Joseph Dunn bottlers and D & C Moore. If you have anymore info on him, please post.

Hello again
Thankyou Tom and Jimmuck.
Jimmuck, I have sent an email to you re Reid and a possible Australian connection.
Tom, Charles Moore with his wife Agnes, aerated water manufacturer was at 155 Morduant St Bridgeton Glasgow in the census of 1891.  I am unsure if his place of birth was N Ireland or Glasgow, 1867.  I understand that he later married a Margaret Simpson.
Regards
Jo

Hi Jo,

The 1891 census states Charles Moore was born in Glasgow, he was aged 23 in census dob approx 1868. In the 1901 census, he is still shwn as born Glasgow, but aged 34 which makes dob 1867, he has moved out of Glasgow to Brownside Road, Cambuslang, and has 6 children  and a house servant, too.

In the 1970's a family Simpson which owned the company which produced 'Moore's Gold Label' lemonade lived in Patterton, near Newton Mearns. Their house was off Capelrig Road, near to Williamwood School (I believe they have since left the area). There were two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret, names which occurred frequently in their family. Both girls went to Laurel Bank School in Glasgow (subsequently Laurel Park School) and I think both married and moved eastwards into the Central Belt.
Moore was the surname of the founder of the company and a grandfather or great-grandfather of the girls. I understand that Dunn and Moore was a separate company.
I believe these may be the descendants of the Moore of which you speak. I cannot help you with the Reid connection. Hope this helps.

Sorry, not Williamwood school, Eastwood school. And I note the Laurel Park old girls website is down. Possibly someone at the Whitecraigs lawn tennis club may still be in contact.
