Hi Dave,
When you're looking at the census image, for example in this 1871 census for Christopher Gowland, at the top of the page you'll see "1871 census - Durham - Dawdon - District 11", click on Dawdon and up comes the index for the Dawdon enumeration districts, clicking on 'District 11' would take you back to the image, but clicking on 'view description of enumeration district' next to that takes you to the enumeration sheet describing all the streets etc covered. Sometimes written in a different hand and sometimes easier to read than the census page, though not always!
From the first search page, instead of entering a name, on the right side of the page under 'Historical Records' you can also click on "UK census collection", scroll down that page to any particular census year, then scroll down to the county you want, then the town, that brings up similar enumeration pages, sometimes useful for searching by address.
Hope this helps (let me know if not clear!)
Barbara
