Hi

If anyone is visiting the Wigan Archives, I would appreciate any information about the birth of Enoch Ashcroft (Ascroft). On various Census he is shown born 1826/7, Wigan. On his marriage certificate his father is also shown to be called Enoch

Hi Jack,

At the risk of asking the obvious, have you checked the IGI?  There is an ENOCH ASCROFT in Wigan, born 1790 and married 1823, with other details listed as well.  Could he be Enoch, the father?  Unfortunately, nothing on Enoch, the son.

Thank you for the response.

Yes, I was aware of the Enoch Ascroft on the IGI, but I can find no evidence of any children born to him on the IGI, so proving a link is difficult. In addition, I cannot find either Enoch the father or Enoch the son on any 1841 Census. Enoch the son first appears on his marriage certificate for 22nd December 1845, and is shown 'of age', yet on subsequent Census, year of birth is shown c1826. The marriage takes place at Tipton, Staffordshire, and his wife is Emma Edgington, 'minor' from Wem Shropshire. Enoch the elder is shown to be a Weaver, which fits with somewhere in Lancashire.

hi, Enoch Ashcroft (1826-27) would be my 3rd gr. grandfather haven't locate anything on his birth. Let me know if you discover anything.
