looking for eadie family on 1881 census

details -

james eadie born 1857 old monkland died 1926 hamilton
mary eadie b. 1861 old monkland d. 1886 hamilton

married 1880 old monkland

son andrew b. 1879 hamilton  d. 1951 newcastle on tyne
daughter agnes wyper b. 1881(born july so not on census ?)

from the info i have they should be in lanarkshire but i can't see them

i have them on the census up to 1901

andrew(b. 1879) might have his mother's maiden name lang

In 1881 the closest to your names I could find was a family living at13 Clyde Street, Govan.

James C. EADIE, age 23 Butcher
wife : Mary EADIE age 24   
Son : Alexr.D. EADIE    11 months born partick

for some reason both Mary and their son are listed as born in Lancashire (Mary born Glasgow lancashire ? and Alexander born Partick lancashire ?)

Just had another look at this one --- there is a fourth person John Bowman ,an engine fitter, described as  Brother in Law.- this would place this family on the extremely doubtful list

The 1881 has 313 Andrews born in Lanarkshire in 1879 none of them are named Eadie or Lang. Of these only 12 are listed as born in Hamilton but none of this dozen have names anywhere near yours nor have they parents James & mary.

PS where are the family in 1891?

Unfortunately I have to agree - I've been trying variations of the surname but nothing jumps out

The national index for the '81 lists very few James eadie's in the UK and the only one with a birth date anywhere near yours is the one listed above in Govan ( which I think can be discounted)

Hi. I have extensively researched the coal mines and coal miners of the Hamilton area and have written two books about them. Both books contain approximately 2000 names of the old time coal miners in this area. The books are called Black Faces and Tackety Boots /True Stories from the Coal Mines of Lanarkshire and Pit Props and Ponies/ True Stories from the Coal Mines of Lanarkshire.  There are approximately 500 old photographs and many true stories of the coal miners and miners Rows in them.
James Eadie a pit bottomer age 30 is mentioned in Black Faces and Tackety Boots.  In 1887 he was a widower living at Greenfield, Burnbank and he was one of the survivors of the Udston Pit disaster the second largest disaster in Scottish Coal mining history. 73 men and wee boys were killed in the explosion. Not only was he a survivor he was among the rescue teams having volunteered to go back underground to try and rescue the trapped miners in conditions which were indescribable.  The story of the heroism of the survivors restores your faith in human nature. he was widowed in 1886 , and was remarried by 1891
