Hello Kat,
What a lovely surprise!! I'm afraid that I haven't progressed at all with my McKechnie ancestors. It is lovely to hear from a relative. I'd love to hear about the family, if you could help me. As I originally said, my Dad wasn't a well man, and he, for some reason, refused to talk about his family at all, even becoming angry and aggressive if my Mum spoke about her family (and she did, often!!).
So, my grandfather Norman, was Malcolm's youngest son; it appears that I omitted Harry in my first post, sorry about that! Please feel free to PM me , and I'll be happy to let you know about our small branch of the family.
Thank you very much.

Hello Kat,
  Welcome to rootschat. :D

Excuse me for butting in Jude but Kat will have to make 2 more posts before she can use the pm system.  They can be trivial eg "hi".

However I do believe (well it worked for me  :) but I can't see it in the regulations) that you can send Kat a PM with your e-mail address.  Kat will not be able to reply by PM (but she can by e-mail).

cheers,
   Ros

Thanks for that info, Ros, much appreciated!

Jude, my father has done a little research on Mr Dellow too, so I will post that here as post #1 toward my goal of personal messages :-) I have copied the below from an email my father sent me, he mentions a copy of a headstone that someone can send him, so if we manage to receive it, I can send a copy on to you.

McKECHNIE—DELLOW.—On the 14th March, at the Bible Christian Church, Balaklava,
by the Rev. John Pearce, Malcolm, eldest son of Mr. John McKechnie, of Victoria
to Priscilla, sixth daughter of Mr. Luke Dellow, of Balaklava.

Luke Dellow (19) married Margaret Ford (18) in Adelaide on 23 November 1853.
According to their golden wedding announcement in the Advertiser in 1903
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/5021413
DELLOW-FORD.-On the 28th November, 1853, at Trinity Church, Adelaide, by the
Rev. Dean Farrell, Luke, second son of William Dellow, Hertfordshire, England,
to Margaret Ford, Ireland. Present address. Findon. S.A.
Good luck finding the origins of "Margaret Ford, Ireland". She arrived in
South Australia in 1949 on the Elgin from Liverpool via Plymouth, unaccompanied
by any family members. It would that seem she never told anybody anything except
"Ireland".

Luke Dellow was baptized in Great Hormead, Hertfordshire, on 16 September 1834.
His parents were William Dellow and Elizabeth Fitzjohn, who were married in
Layston, Hertfordshire, on 30 January 1826. See
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NL3M-QMX
Their youngest son, Thomas Edward,
was born in Brompton on 26 April 1850. Go to
http://www.familyhistorysa.info/births-marriages-deaths/births.html
and search for a birth with the surname "Della".

William and Elizabeth Dellow, your greatgreatgreatgreatgrandparents, are
buried in the Hindmarsh Cemetery. See
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~deadsearch/hindmarsh_ag.htm

There is a nice person who has photographed the headstones and will send
us one for free if we ask."

- Kat

Also, mother Jennifer (whose mother was Thelma, whose father was Harry, whose father was Malcolm) says that Arthur & Gwen has surviving decendants who are dairy farmers around the Mt Compass area. They may be the people you need to chat to about Malcolm's grave site, unless you have already solved it (also, thanks for the reminder.. Harry's grave site is up for renewal in 2015 and mum and I don't want to forget!! :-)

And that is message #2, PM on the way!

OOPS!! Thanks Ros, I really should have said that I would PM her, but was at work, and in a hurry. Happy for you to "butt in"" with info at any time.
Thanks again.
Also, thanks Kat for the info. I'll be in touch with you, certainly.
