Hi

1871 shows husband as James - not John

There is no marriage shown on freebmd - where did you get her maiden name from?

To look up a marriage in parish records - you need to know which church it took place in and also the year and quarter to narrow down the search

Hi CarolW,

I put this query in as a favour for a friend.

John Beaumont b 1844 in uppethong Holmfirth
Wife Sarah Anne Beaumont b 1846 Lockwood Huddersfield on (I'm told) 1871 c

Son Ernist Jones Beaumont b 1867 Est from census first born and other sibling 71c

Thus you can see where Jones comes from

I think I was a wrong assumption but some do that!

Well again thank you very much for you help.

David

Hi Carol

We found Sarah Ann Jones her born 1848 in Huddersfield on 51c Milnsbridge father Samuel ( Been Told)

There is one entry BMD  marr index About 1866/8 John Beaumont and on his own where it say others on page.

Anyway thanks for trying

This may be of interest:

http://www.intreeg.spiderweb.com.au/www/Genealogy/GEDmill/indiI1756.html

I notice this researcher has QUARMBY as a possible surname for Sara Ann.  There is a Sarah Ann QUARMBY born in Lockwood on 1851 census living with her Aunt.

There is no birth reg on freebmd for an Ernest  Beaumont with a middle name of Jones.  I think this is the 1871 census you are referring to - the transcription for Sarah is Sarahj A which is why it wasn't picked up on my earlier search

Leeds Rd Huddersfield

John Beaumont 27 patent valve fitter b Holmfirth
Sarah A 25 b Lockwood
Ernest J 4 b Huddersfield
Charlotte A 2 b Huddersfield
Arthur 2 months b Huddersfield

If her surname was Quarmby - this is the marriage but your friend needs to buy a copy of one of the childrens birth certs first to confirm her maiden name

Marriages March qtr 1865
Beaumont  John     Huddersfield  9a 367
Quarmby  Sarah Ann     Huddersfield  9a 367

Births March qtr 1871

Beaumont  Arthur     Huddersfield  9a 348

Thanks David, hello everyone and thanks for the help.
It's only a broken toe that feels poorly, a 4th toe which had a brick-like object fall upon it.
A good excuse for some concerted research.

There's often a clue to identity in my old family records which concurs with census, or in cross examining census itself, but the only slender one in this case is the first-born's middle name of JONES which warrants investigation.

this is a typical clue:

on the back - John Beaumont the 2nd with John the 4th

That's my gg Granduncle and presumably the husband of Sarah Ann, the only reference to whom is in census which twice has her born at Lockwood, Yorks abt 1846. John was born 17 DEC 1843, Upperthong, Yorkshire.
I've gleaned the whole family from census and FreeBMD because it ties in with the above photo's caption and the general known location.
Supporting evidence is John and Sarah's absence from home at 33 Cleveland Road, Huddersfield in the 1901 census. John was later a traveller (another photo clue).
There may be a clue to Sarah's identity if she or John can be found in 1901 but I've not found them, as obviously correct.

(Pintree's link is the right tree but if Hilda Beaumont, daughter of Lewis, rings a bell - there's doubt about Beaumont Riding being her husband.)
cheers, Geoffrey
