Galway parishes -COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 25 December 08 09:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am interested in these parishes  Kilcummin  Killunan and Kilcromwell. The last two don't seem to exist. I wonder if they might actually  be Killannin and Kilconnell. I am wondering if these places are close together. I've got three brothers born in the 1830s  supposedly in these three parishes according to army records. The brother from   Killunan won VC in 1863 NZ. Name is Dudley Stagpoole .  Even the family name is a misspelling.
I'm very confused about these multiple place names would really appreciate a georgraphy lesson if anyone can help.

Hi Shane
That does help
Killannin and Kilcummin are conveniently located beside one another as I suspected they were. Kilconnell seems to be a long way distant thought.

Thanx Janine

Hi
Thanks to every one who  read my post. I still haven't found the mysterious  Killunan.  Does anybody know of it please?

hi janine,

might it be killooaun? there are 4 townlands in galway with this name;
killooaun, civil parish of ballymacward
killooaun(browne)               do
killooaun(eyre)                    do
killooaun,civil parish of clonkeen.

with a bit of mis-pronounciation it could be killooaun. try this site for yourself and see if you can spot something which resembles killunan;

The last response was correct. Killooaun would be the area you are probably looking for

The family de Stacpoole owned the Mount Hazel house and estate. They were members of the landed gentry and all were members of the British Armed forces.
