Hi, Everyone,
Have recently just about satisfied myself that the HART family who married into my family in 1846 may well have originated from Longhope in Gloucestershire...
I'm looking at a Joseph HART, bapt. 30-07-1779, along with 4 other siblings born to an Anthony and Ann HART. Is there a marriage for an Anthony and Ann prior to their first child being baptised in 1773, perhaps in a nearby village if not in Longhope itself?
Then, presumably looking for Joseph's father Anthony HART, there is a baptism for a likely candidate in the individual bapt. 26-12-1741 in Longhope, parents Anthony and Margaret; also a possible sister Hannah, bapt. 21-09-1740; not sure about an Elizabeth HART bapt. 20-12-1734, parents Anthony and Elizabeth.
Again, is there any marriage in the locality for an Anthony HART and a Margaret prior to 1740, or even a short-lived marriage for an Anthony and Elizabeth prior to 1734.
I do not know this part of the world at all, and if anyone with local knowledge can tell me anything interesting about Longhope, it would be much appreciated. Looking on the roadmap, the A40 appears to thunder past to the north, but the village appears to be still nicely tucked away off the main beaten tracks...
very best wishes,
keith
