PHILLIPS/DADDOW/Edgar ALLEN/CUSSEN/BALL

Hi there
Looking for descendants of James and Jane Phillips (nee Daddow) who migrated to Qld from Cornwall in 1873. Also looking for descendants of Edgar Allen or Edwin and Elizabeth Allen from Mevagissey Cornwall. Edgar Allen had a child with Josephine Cussen (mother's family Ball from Cornwall).  This child was adopted by James and Jane Phillips. They lived in Toowoomba Qld and the Allens lived in Brisbane. (At least I think!!) I have no way of knowing if this Edgar Allen from Brisbane is the one I am interested in as all I know is his name and no other info. He is not mentioned on birth cert. So I thought descendants of any of these families may know something.

What was the adopted child's name?

Date of birth?

Place of birth.?


What do you think was the relalatoinship between the 2 families you have mentioned?
[Remember, there was no such thing as formal and legal adoption until the 1900's There was often a friendship or family connection between families involved ]

If the father's name was not mentioned on the birth certificate as you say, why do you think the man you have named, Edgar Allen, was the father?

Please give as many other dates and details as you can and something may turn up

Thanks for your advice.  I was lucky to see the father's name written in the old church baptism records years ago.  There may be no connection at all between the families, except they all came from Cornwall.  The Edgar Allen from Sth Brisbane is the only one I have been able to find in BDM's etc who could fit the right dates. Josephine did have her child in Sth Brisbane before returning to Toowoomba. I have posted all this on the off chance that a descendant of any of these families may be researching.  I know both families had lots of children. Then the chances of any of them knowing anything about Edgar Allen is a long shot;  but there's nothing really anyone can look up for me thanks anyway.

My Ball family is -
Josiah Ball married Elizabeth Hodge, moved from Mylor Cornwall to Toowoomba Qld. Daughter Sarah Jane Ball b. 1849; son John Hodge Ball. Sarah Jane is Josephine's mother.
The Allen family is -
Edwin Allen married Elizabeth Williams, moved from Mevagissey Cornwall to South Brisbane. Children-
Edwin, Edgar b1869, Elizabeth, Ann, William, Josiah, Albert, Philip, George.

has been very helpful and interesting.  I have found quite a few bits of info about various ancestors.
Back to my original posting, I should clarify a few things. Josephine, after having her child Bertie in 1892 with Edgar Allen, later married Arthur Pobar.
I know quite a bit about all these families but Edgar Allen is my problem and since I know nothing but his name, I am hoping that out there somewhere is a descendant of Phillips,Allen,Ball,Cussen or Pobar who knows something.  I have been in touch only with Pobars in the past but no one knew anything.

My name isColin Francis Cussen, grandson of John Samuel Cussen, whose ONLY sister was called Josephine Cussen, who married a POBAR in Toowomba.

Josephine had a son before marriage to Pobar.

I live in Brisbane - suburb of Taringa.
