Hi Gobbo

I would think this sentence is meant to be their explanation  :-\

"During the beta phase we released the site with a reduced data set in order to facilitate testing. When the site fully launches later this year all census data will be included"

Maybe they were too inundated with queries to be more specific   ??? :D

Jan ;)

Chuckling here - I too reported the missing Hertfordshire data and this is the reply I received yesterday - so happy they solved my problem!  ;D

Dear xxxx,

Your enquiry has now been resolved. Please find the answer to your enquiry below:

We have now reached the end of the beta period for the 1911census.co.uk site.

The website is no longer available and we will return in 2009 with the launch of the official site.

Thank you for the huge volume of feedback you have given us and for your many comments.

(Errr, I didn't send a huge volume of feedback either - just the one enquiry :P)

Hi Jan

They must have had a very large number of queries - my question was assigned number 15118.  I expect that Carol's reference numbers will be even higher.  If they hold their hands up and say this was a beta trial held largely over the Christmas holiday period and we just could not cope with queries at that time well sort of fair enough.  But I hate being told that my question has been resolved when it has not.  And I still resent having had to pay the full price in a beta trial.  (For those of you feeling really adventurous Microsoft is said to be offering the beta version of the next Windows for free.)

Still a bit grumpy Gobbo

Hardly the same beta, though is it?  1911 is top-drawer and everyone wants to get at it, Windows isn't!!  I was warned off Vista at an early stage, so any new stuff is probably not for me, yet.  I don't mind having had to pay for the privilege of finding census information in advance of others!!  And at the same price (I hope)!?  My only disappointment was that as it is by household, you don't get to see who the neighbours are, but then I'm nosey, having found other relations by looking at the page, rather than the transcription in earlier censuses.  Unfortunately we don't have the option on this one.  Swings and roundabouts!  ::) ::)

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

I'm still very happy about what I've obtained  :)

I was one of the lucky ones because, by chance, or the fact that it was done by RDs,  they classified the part of Wales that I was interested in as part of Shropshire.

I still think the costings were wrong but to see my Mum and Dad on the census for the first time was the best Christmas present I could have had  :)

I do hope those who weren't as lucky as I was will be able to get their rellies up soon.
