Not sure if this has already been covered, but in answer to my query about subscriptions and wildcard searches, received this email today:

"Currently due to licensing issues and regulation in place we are unable to offer a subscription service. This will change in 2009 and subscriptions will become available through FindMyPast.com, but for the remainder of the beta test at least, we will only be able to offer a pay per view service.

The advanced search functions, such as use of wildcards and searches without surnames, will be tested after the service is publicly released in 2009.

Similarly, only the RG14 images of household schedules will be available to view during beta and initial launch periods; customers will eventually have access to all the related RG78 Enumerators Schedules and relevant summary sheets included within the original image price."

Thanks Barbara

I'm going to leave any more searches until I can use my sub for it, too expensive by far.  Not the best way to carry out a beta trial, but then I guess they knew we would be so desperate we would pay any price.   ::) ::) :( :(

If that means the enumerator's sheets we are used to seeing in past censuses, then that is marvellous news.  It's so useful being able to see the adjacent households.  I've solved a lot of mysteries by looking at the neighbours, as there are often other relatives, and sometimes future spouses.

Thanks for that Newf.

Anyone know what the piece numbers for 1911 are?

Or even 1901, as it might give a clue.

The 1911 census is being released in piece number order. The piece numbers correspond to the GRO registration numbers and so on that basis Staffordshire will be about halfway through the release. See link for the order the GRO numbers fall and hence the order in which the counties will be released

There are no enumerators books as in previous censuses.  :) However the enumerators summary books do contain a list of the properties included in the enumeration district, the schedule numbers, as well as the address of each household. The surname of the head of the household, the title of the head(Mr. Mrs. Miss, Dr. etc.) and a summary of the number of males and females in each household.

Hi all - Help needed please  :D

This has been Xmas come early for me as far as Staffordshire is concerned so I'm very grateful to Santa FindMyPast (if you read this, Santa FindMyPast :-*)

Now I've ventured out of Staffs and I'm lost!!

I'm searching for someone in Herefordshire and whatever I search for (even Smith!!), I get no results found. Anybody else?  :-\

Also, where on earth do I report it without having to tell them all about my age & location and whether I was expecting to find photographs of my ancestors? :P
