Sorry if this has already been answered, but is it necessary to download a viewer to use the beta version?
I only have access to a work PC, and we're not allowed to download applications!

on the original, you don't get the address

The address should be in the bottom right hand corner of the image, below the signature

 :)

Image removed as the test site is not yet open for general use and users agree not to publish extracts before it is officially opened in 2009.

sigh .... hardly an extract - the bottom rh corner of a relations signature and address ?

You don't have to download any software, but you do download the .jpg file showing the image of the actual census return because to save server capacity you can't see the actual images online (they're going to change that once they're up and running). The image files are about 500-600kb each. If you just want a transcript, that pops up on the screen straight away.

I've just downloaded a couple of transcripts, but they do not have all the information quoted above.

They have:

Name
Relationship to head
Marital status
Years married
Sex
Age in 1911
Occupation
Where born

plus details of the address. I did not get details of children except those in the household at the time.

i take it you mean the household transcript? and cost 10 units
to get the above (full information) its the household original page you need (30 units)
ie you get the actual census form

Yes, that's what I thought, but with respect, you did say transcript, not original, in your earlier post where you listed all the other features.  I'd already got mine, but it might be a bit misleading for others.

Not long to go now ... hopefully the trial will still be available all day tomorrow.  Very clever of them to time it when everyone's so busy with other stuff!  ;D

yes sorry so to clarify,  transcript you get the info you mention (cost 10 credits)
original household you get the fill info (cost 30 credits) which also as Newf and Shaunj say you DO get the address
written in their own hand + signature
if you are doing an initial search to find anyone and you get the transcript, then decide it is what you want and go for original
it will cost 40 credits, one thing i did like not sure if it will continue in full release, any transcripts or originals you d/l
are in your records, so even though we have d/l them they are also still available once paid in there "free"
as i say not sure if that will be available next year, or once millions jump onboard in will take up to much bandwidth?

That's great - thanks, Aniseed!    The JPEGs shouldn't be a problem.
Now I know how I'm going to spend my lunchbreak!

On the transcript I downloaded the hosehold address was in the boxes at the bottom of page one, going over on to the second page, included in the Census reference details.

Modem, how do you get the second page? I've only ever downloaded one.

There's a discussion in the Common Room at the moment about the lack of reference numbers on the 1911 census.

FindMyPast don't allow them as search parameters at the moment. It will make it harder to find them again, or even point other people in the right direction.
