I got my email this morning.

Sadly for me, 99.9% of mine are in Lancashire by 1911 so I'll have to be patient  ;D but I had a look for GGrandfather Clark's married sisters in Camberwell & some of the hubby's farther off Sampsons in Uttoxeter / Hanley & all was well.

Found them easily, search results enabled me to pick the right ones, transcripts no problems & I like the scanned pages, so I filled out the online survey as requested too.

This is still the test mode & the subscription package is not announced yet I think - only credits for now & you can use them up on findmypast.

Generally happy with what I have seen - need to see what the subscription or on-going cost will be & when the other counties come through but fingers crossed for a fab New Year of searching  ;D

Sel  :)

I'm the last of the big spenders and I had 218 spare credits but even I am thinking twice about 30 credits a throw. I'll keep them for the direct lines only, I think.

Gadget,

I have just thought of someone I would really like to look up and as I now see that Cambridgeshire is on and it won't get any cheaper in the near future I may buy the minimum amount, and just settle for the transcription at this stage.  LOL!

When the site is searchable by subscription I shall do the bulk of my reles.

I've already used up most of my credits on London...& so must try to hang on now until Glamorganshire is available! ::) ::)

Fascinating though...to find my elusive G/Grandfather living with my G/Grandmother in Greenwich...only to find that his birthplace was Carnarvon!!

When does Wales come onboard??

Hi Gadget, - Happy Christmas!! :D :D

He was: Thomas Louis NEWMAN, born Carnavon 1869, - but I can't find a Birth Entry for him so far:-(

And another curious thing...he doesn't seem to be on any of the Censuses, - apart from the 1911 ;D ;D

All Best Wishes, Romilly :) :)

I read somewhere that Wales transcriptions are going to be going on after England because people had the option to have aWelsh form and complete it in Welsh. So they are having to translate the information so everyone can read it.
I have found everyone I expected to find pretty easily. I think the whole idea of this test is to iron out problems. I sent them an e-mail with my thoughts - the more people that do this the more chance the site will be what we would like  it to be when it is fully available.
I had an e-mail from FindMyPast about 6 weeks ago saying that you can buy £5 vouchers for 50 credits from a stockists which is cheaper than what you can buy online. You can get them from archives and local history libraries - look at FindMyPast's website for a full ist. I bought £10 and wished I had got more now! I said to my dad who was with me at the time (who offered to get me £20 for an early Christmas present) there's no way I will need £20 pounds worth - famous last words.
They are phasing out these cheaper vouchers so I think when stocks are gone...

I got the email eventually but I have not been able to find a single one of the London families I am researching !

The search functionality is quite limited:

 - completion of the surname field is mandatory so it's not possible to search by given names and birthplace only

 - it's not possible to use wildcards;

 - the search results don't show addresses or birthplaces or occupations or spouse names.

All very unsatisfactory in my view.
Well it's a beta version. They want feedback so they can improve it by the time it's publically released - so you should let them know.
