Hi

Viewing an image on the 1901 census at http://www.1901censusonline.com/main.asp?wci=welcome
costs up to £1.50.  Viewing an image on the 1911 census costs up to £3.50 - rather serious inflation in just 10 years.

All the best

Aberdeenshire - Chalmers, Crocker, Dalrymple, Kelman
Fife - Co?per, Dun, Jackson
NE England - Harland, Hasted, Heaviside, Longridge, Thompson
SE England - Drawbridge, Hall, Hayward, Howard, Newell, Seward, Slade, Smith

If I recall correctly wasn't the 1901 census 5 pounds per image when first released? It was only when made available to various commercial sites that the price dropped.

Given it would have cost millions to digitise and index, and the expense has to be recouped by whoever initially paid, I'm surprised that its only 30 credits. No doubt the cost will eventually come down but that might not be for a while.

I concur.

Given that there is vastly more information to process (scan & store) I'm actually not too displeased with the price(s). I prefer to regards it as 3 household sheets for a little more than the price of a single GRO certificate.
3*2.70 = 8.10..

And no, mine are not showing up with fairy lights around their names either, but the 'known associates' searching is VERY useful.

I also received the invite as i registered an interest in the 1911 census a LONG time ago,
anyway as my grandparents on both sides were originally from the london area, i bit the bullet and paid for 60 units £6-95 (ie two original pages) and my view is WELL worth the money, probably because i found instantly those i wanted, luckily i knew their DOB's.
i also saw it was my great grandads that had completed the forms, i also saw on one of the forms
my gt grandmother Dinah Lee was living with my grandparents and she died in 1912, as i didnt know where she was living when she died, so with those finds i then paid for another 60 units, and found EXACTLY what i was looking for.

If your doing basic searching looking for info' it would probably work out pretty expensive, but for those who are pretty sure what they are looking for, it's excellent to have the originals, must admit it gave me as much as a buzz, as when ive had a certificate drop through the door with new info.

I also have a grandad that came from russia aged 3, and i found him and his family living in the east end
(again confirming info' i knew) but brillaint to see when arrived, how long his parents were married (as married in russia so no info') how many rooms in their house etc.

So just confirms how much the 1911 census will help so many to move forward,
for those who have access, be quick as it states the beta will only be online until the 22nd December

I got my invitation as well, and found the site excellent.  Just searched by surname with no other information and up popped the answers.  Shame it only covers part of the country, but then I've got some credits left for next time!

Well, think about it ..... I think it's way overpriced.

Makes it very expensive if you're looking for someone you don't know much about, or someone with a very common name who may not be living with their family, someone who isn't where you might have expected them to be, or just make a mistake.

Well, I have thought about it and havent changed my mind.

The costs involved to do this work must be staggering, I'm surprised it isnt more expensive....

It seems your expectations of a limited area Beta test are too high.
