Hi all - Help needed please  :D

I'm searching for someone in Herefordshire and whatever I search for (even Smith!!), I get no results found. Anybody else?  :-\

I can't find my Herefordshire family either - I know they were still living there in 1911  :-\
Perhaps they haven't uploaded all districts yet.  Same for me in Northamptonshire, district needed is missing  :-\

Susan  :)

Merry Christmas everyone  :D

"Missing" districts in Staffordshire seem to be because they are using much more generalised areas as districts than on previous returns.  E.g. if you put "Bilston" in the "Residential Place" Box, it does appear to limit the search further, but all the people returned are given as District=Wolverhampton.

Unless they improve on this, I think that a lot of money could be wasted trying to distinguish between people who would be differentiated by place on any other census.

[added: I guess that you can distinguish that the people returned as in Dudley, are in fact not in Dudley (examples I have found are actually in Coseley and Tipton) because if they really were in Dudley, they wouldn't be in Staffordshire]
McDonough, Oliver, McLoughlin, O'Brien, Cuthbert, Keegan, Quirk(e), O'Malley, McGuirk (Ireland)
Dudley, Winchurch, Wolverson, Brookes (Black Country)
Concannon, Moore, Markowski (Markesky), Mottram, Lawton (Black Country)

I think I posted something about this earlier. I had the same problem finding someone in Twickenham.

If you go to:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp

Search for 'Bilston' and put 'RG 14' in the department field.

This shows all the 1911 references for Bilston. You should be able to narrow your search by entering a census reference RD369 SD7 (note that RS has been changed to SD).

i have been looking at my tree again toay and actually thre are not that many people to find inthe 1911 census
what i mean by that is great grandmother born in 1900 - i have located her and her siblings and conveintly they were all at home
her husband to be - have located him also at home with his siblings and parents
paternal great grandmother found her in 1911 with all of her children one of whom was my granddad his wife to be
my Nan - Leicester isnot yet released but i know where she was anyway its the other household i would like to see
my maternal grandfather was not in the UK until 1948 so the next census which would help with that lineis the 1951 ! a long wait
there are cousins of great grandparents / grandparents which i could find but the direct line previous (and unlces / aunts etc) had all but died out by 1911
or emigrated
i have been going through my tree today and really there are not that many people to find

For those who haven't checked the Blog today and were looking for Herefordshire (I remember Tati was ), this is what they are now saying:

Quote
Herefordshire data not on site

Contrary to our earlier post, Herefordshire data is not available on the site - apologies for those looking for ancestors there! We hope the other 25 counties are keeping you busy! And happy Boxing Day.

Dated 26th December.

I've finally managed to collect a definitive list of locations in the 1911 census along with their census references.

If you would like a lookup (Place to Census reference or reverse) post here:

Paul, You may fall foul of the 1911's own website by advertising such look ups.

When you log on you have to agree to " not use this beta site except for your personal research  and not publish, distribute or otherwise make publicly available search results"

They may withdraw the facility tomorrow anyway. They did originally say it was available till 22nd Dec and kindly extended it over Xmas.

Just so you are aware, wouldn't want any Rootschatter to get into trouble  ;)
