Hear Hear Ambers - theres been a few of us voicing that opinion .....  :)

Yes, and I'm beginning to feel that they are deliberately maximising income by being less than fair with stating the District.  Most of my relatives I would expect to find in Bilston if they haven't moved away, but I've gradually realised that there is no Bilston or Tipton, etc. district on this census.  It's all listed as Wolverhampton.

The one page that I've looked at says Coseley but comes up on the search as Dudley.  If they are going to be as vague as that, I doubt that i will try to download much until it is at least included in some sort of subscription.

[oops: just redid search for a transcribed record and Tipton comes up as Dudley too]

just found a good way of getting information from the search results. I'm trying to find children born between 1901 and 1911 to said 2G aunt, so I put her name in the box at the bottom where you enter another household member. Now I have a list of people who are living with her, giving me the names of her children without using up credits

ahh good move! thanks for sharing the trick, will save some credits  :D

so far I've only downloaded onces I am really certain about but would love to search more.

I've been using a mixture of similar methods to get more information.  The requirement to put a surname in the top search means that you might want to try a few close family names to check for vistors.

Just found my great-grandmother by that method and established that she wasn't living alone she was with a daughters family (so they had a different surname).  She must have been feeling sprightly that day as she gave her age as 70 (actually should have been about 77).  She was reported as 69 in the previous census!  ;D

I'm just wondering how old 3G Grandmother will be this time::)

She was born in 1856.
1861: Aged 5
1871: Aged 15 (goes downhill from here!)
1881: Aged 23
1891: Aged 30
1901: Aged 40
She died in September 1911 and her burial had her listed about a decade younger than she actually was. At one point she's on the census with her daughter and only about 13 years older! You'd think she'd have noticed that she was getting younger than her husband, whose age only went up by 10 years each decade!

If they are anything like mine they start reducing their age by about two years on every census. :D

That's why I am finding it difficult to find them in the 1911, quite common names to the area, and so many people of roughly the same age.

What's amazed me is that mine have all been incredibly honest on the 1911 - ages within 1 year of the birthdays that I know of and in the right places (except for the exodus from St Pancras) and named correctly and everything  :)

Maybe they wanted me to find them and not waste my credits  ;D

What amazes me Gadget as well as simply looking at their signatures is the amount of previously unknown children I've now got to go looking for!

I've just had a look at the 1911 blog.  There could be a lot of over-cooked turkeys around on the 25th - my understanding of the message is that this trial will continue over the Christmas period - they are talking about picking up Support messages on 29 December and there will be no support staff on 27 and 28, which implies that the site will continue until at least the 29th!!

BumbleB

Yes, it's true.  I got an email from them last night saying "we have extended the beta test period (which was due to end yesterday) for a few days into the Christmas holidays - you should keep an eye on the 1911census.co.uk blog to get updates on exactly when it will finish. However, do not wait too long - the beta site will not be available for much longer. "

Although I suspect that the launch will be in the 2nd week of January !  ;)

Nick.

I have found the first person I actually KNEW on a census!! How amazing!! My Great Great Aunt Gwen, who I adored when I was a child as she had a house full of old dolls! I have found her with her parents and siblings aged 1!!
I can't find 2 other people on the census though and I'm 90% sure they were in Huntingdonshire in 1911! I'm trying to rack my brains to see what they may have been transcribed as!
Yorkshire: Bennison, Sedman, Collinson, Taylor, Lambert, Ness
Cumberland: Carrick
Hunts, Leicstershire, Beds: Lewin, Beale, Kinton, Weston
Middlesex: Gadsdon, Matts, Stephenson, Sharp
Lincolnshire: Stephenson, Would, Blythman
Ireland: Callan,
Scotland: Bunyan/Bullion
