Searching for parents born Plumstead
« on: Sunday 14 December 08 14:44 GMT (UK) »
Hello and a very Merry Xmas to you all.

I am trying to find the birth of James Knight according to the 1881 census a Butcher by trade born c.1855 Plumstead Kent.

He married Edith Hooker born c.1857 in Stopham Sussex.  They married in Hove, Sussex on 26/03/1876.

I have found Ediths ancestors butI am stuck on James. They had a son James Henry Knight born 1880 Brighton.

I have found a Henry Knight living in Plumstead in 1851 with a son James born c.1853 but can't be sure as I don't have the names of any of James' siblings...if he had any..

Any help greatly appreciated

Who does James state as his father(name and occupation) on his marriage cert?
I see you have an exact date - so looks like you have thecert.

It would be worth getting the marriage cert then - to help ensure that you find the right JAmes on censuses before his marriage.
I would iamgine that a name like James Knight could have several possibiliites
As you have said yourself, you have found one that looks possible, but have no info to check against. If you have James dad's name and occ from his marriage cert, that would rule in or out the one you found.

Plumstead was in the Lewisham Regn District until 1868 ... so how about this chap ? (there are others in Greenwich & Dartford, but this seems right)

As Liz says, if you have the marriage Cert, can you quote Fathers name & occupation - oh, and any witnesses ?

whoops, just seen your response ...

Thank you,

I am a bit loathe to spend money on this one as it is for my sister in laws Mum & I have already spent a fortune doing our tree. I have managed to get Edith Crumpler's family back to 1822 George Crumpler c.1822 Harbridge Hampshire so I will get in touch with them first before forking out anything. As we all know it can be an expensive hobby lol
