Hi Again,

Has anyone ever heard of Towoder, Shropshire, England.  That is the birth place  listed on 1851 census: George Edward Griffiths - Army Pensioner - Croydon, Surrey?

Hi Rizzo

I haven't come across a Mabel Jenkins in all my lot.  Do you know her parents' names?  That might help to narrow things down a bit.

Sorry to go slightly off topic here :-[

Hi Lloydy,
Sorry to be so long in replying, been working away from home all week. Just got Mabels birth certificate from Southport, childs name Mabel Henson, mother Laura Jenkins, no father named! So maybe her father was a Henson from Newtown, who knows?. Any connections to the Hughes' in Duddleston, Salop?

Hi Rachel_K

I notice that you have the surname 'Moreton' in your ancestor list - I was born a Moreton and would be interested in seeing if we have any ancestors in common.  My Moreton's did not originate from Shropshire but moved there sometime in approx 1930's but I still have family in the area.

Hi Rizzo

No connection to your lot I'm afraid :'(  The only Shropshire ancestors I have are the Betton (Beaton) line.

My Jenkins line originate from Llanidloes, and so far I haven't come across a Laura Jenkins.

Good luck with your research.

May I join in please.

I have relatives (close family) living in South Shropshire and  near Shrewsbury and  a gr gr gr grandfather (James Nevitt) who was born in
Sherrington in the early1800s. (His father was a John Nevitt who hailed from somewhere - not known as yet):(

Nell
Hi. I typed James Nevitt into Google and was sent to one of your messages. I was very surprised to see the photo of my great granddad James.  He looks very smart, the only photo I have was taken in the garden and is quite hazy. Definitely him though. The dates match.  Looks as if we're related in some way!

Great uncle James, I believe, was a carpenter in the pit and was working on the shaft at the time of the explosion.  I do have details, but not to hand at the moment. My grandma was Elizabeth Nevitt, daughter of James Snr, sister of James Jnr.

Does anyone have any Shropshire Stubbs, Simon, Ikin or Llewellin?

Hi Jill, I have been working through my Cornish ancestors and have discovered a link with Llewellin, Shropshire. Are you still researching this family and had any leads?

My Gr-gr-grandmother was Charlotte Llewellin born 1817 in Falmouth, Cornwall. Her father, George, is recorded in the 1841 Census in St Buryan, Cornwall as being from "foreign parts" i.e. not Cornish. He died 1845 aged 70 which indicates he was born 1775. In the 1851 Census his widow is recorded as a "seaman's widow".

The IGI indicates that there is only one person matching this, born in the UK. The record indicates him born 1775 in Whitchurch of John and Sarah READ. They married 1761 in Whitchurch. A list of George's siblings also shows a sister Charlotte. The name George also pops up quite a lot in the records in Whitchurch. The only John that could match his father was born 1743 but seems a bit young. There may also be an error because according to records this couple's first child was only baptised 1764.
