Hi Jill

No, I haven't got any further back......actually, I've been concentrating more on one of my JONES lines because I've just made contact with a 3rd cousin.

I'm still stuck at my GGG Grandparents, John and Elizabeth Simon who were both from Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire so I think a trip to the NLW in Aberystwyth is necessary!!!

OOops!!! Sorry to hijack a Shropshire thread :-[ :D

Jan

It's all interesting how there seems to be a Shropshire/Montgomeryshire/Denbighshire/Staffordshire link with  many of us. (Those Marches)

I expect that many of us are related if we go back far enough  :)

and, if we're going to ape the Canadian thread, how do people pronounce Shrewsbury ~

Shrewsbury

Shrowsbury

Showsbury

Shoesbury

and is the Dingle still there - we had lots of picnics and happy times there when I was little  :)

I'm saving well for your pressie....looking forward to seeing you in Willow Street ;)

As far as the pronunciation goes.....

I say "Shroosbury" coz I'm not posh ;D but some folk do say "Shrowsbury" (with a plum in their mouth ;D)

I'm only kidding, and don't mean to offend anyone, but the majority of us Shropshire people do pronounce it the common way :D

The Dingle is still there, and always full of beautfiful flowers.  I spend a lot of time walking round there during the summer months, I love it.

For those of you who are not familiar with Shrewsbury type "The Dingle Shrewsbury" in your search engine images, and you will find so many gorgeous photos on the net.

Actually, I've just re-read my post and I've made a typing error!!!  I should have put "Shoosbury" (or Shoesbury)....so I pronounce it the same as you ;D ;D

That's my girl  :)

I've just been thinking of my Shropshire roots - apart from the ancient one who built the bridge in Shrewsbury (Dad's side)  in AD 600 or summat - my Grandad was born in the Workhouse at Morda in 1866 andmy Mum died in Shrewsbury Hospital 10 years ago come March  :'( :'( :'(

My lovely Mum - she hated being Welsh (with all her Scottish ancestors)  - when she wanted to be posh, she always said that she was born in Shropshire  ;D :)
