ELLIOT, Ewes
« on: Monday 08 December 08 17:43 GMT (UK) »

in the 1851 census for Castleton the following person is listed

James ELLIOT age 89 born Ewes Dumfrieshire (making him born 1766)
in 1841 he is listed as 75 years old  (making him born 1762)

I have looked on Scotlands people can only find a James ELLIOT born 1766 at Eskdalemuir son of James Elliot and Mary Park

Does anybody know anything about this James ELLIOT??

Many thanks

Vinnie

Hi Vinnie,
Don't know if this will help but in the Castleton memorials there is this:-

Erected to the memory of James Elliot who died at Castleton 18 June 1794 aged 61. Also Betty Goodfellow his spouse who died at Newcastleton 1817 aged 88. Also James Elliot their son who died at Newcastleton  26 April 1851 aged 89.

That would put this James as a birth date of 1762.

If you think James is yours there is some more to it - let me know

That looks like it could well be him do is it list the son James as having a wife buried with him?

I belive he may have been married to Jane Nicol in 1790?

If you don't mind sending the rest

Thank you so much

Hi Vinnie,
I have replied off list as I can send you more information that way.
It says his spouse was Christian Fletcher
