Thanks again Trish,

I had seen the tree on Rootsweb but missed the bit about J T Hinton & wife not returning to Australia until Nov 1864. That does put a different light on it. :)

Oh dear, I'm none the wiser with the Rev W T Godson especially as he came from Wales, at least there was a slight connection with my Brants & Hinton, they were all born in Berks. ::)

Thank you for the death ref for Godson, it helps knowing he didn't return to England.

I'm hoping the Maryborough FHS may be able to help but until then it looks like Rev Godson is my next contender.

Just seen your new post, that may make a difference knowing he was in UK in 1861.

Many thanks again.

It seems from the discussion on RootsWeb, Godson stayed on in the cottage, so it perhaps never was occupied by Rev Hinton. He was still marrying folks after Rev Hinton returned  :)

I too have a certificate of marriage dated 1868. states,
married at the residence of William T. Godson, Dovedale Cottage, John St,
Maryborough, according to the rites of the Baptist Church.

There is also a comment that the Maryb FHS does have some information on Dovedale Cottage.
Is it possible that your family knew the Revs wife? I can't see any immigration, so am assuming that she came with him - the wife and children were born in Worcestershire - still a distance from Berks. Quite a trip to make in 1863 when c. 60 years old.

That's a thought actually, it could be the Revs wife who is the connection, although I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps sometime between 1861 & 1863 the Rev had a chapel in Red Hill Surrey & that's how they were acquainted.

As you say, it was quite a trek for a man of 60 to make all the way to Australia ???

I have a copy of a  diary written by the eldest daughter Elizabeth Martha who became a school teacher & never married & in it there is quite a lot of reference to religion.

They sound as if they were quite a typical Victorian family. :)

I am grateful for your help & I'll let you know if I get to the bottom of this. :)

Hello, I have found the page about Rev Wm Thomas Godson and the various responses from a long time ago. I have plenty of information about this person but am looking for more. Is someone still around who did this post and/or knows about it?  I am very new to Rootschat so I am not sure I am doing the right thing here - be patient and help.  But please get back to me if you can help me
